Die Bayern wagen sich einmal mehr an einen Song aus fremder Feder: „Tainted Love“. Der Klassiker aus den 60er Jahren - wenn auch mehr bekannt durch die 80er-Version von Soft Cell - erhält eine weitere Frischekur. Nur dieses Mal mit Tuba, Turntables und Akkordeon - waren ja auch Bayern am Werk, mit Laptop und Lederhose sozusagen. Am Ende ist der Song vorbei und man weiß überhaupt nicht, was da für ein Zug an einem vorbeigeschossen ist: Anfangs tuckert er im geschmeidigen Polkatempo daher, rauscht dann mehr als nur zügig und ratternd vorbei, um am Ende zu Dubstep-Klängen am Horizont zu verschwinden.
Doch keine Zeit zum Verschnaufen, nahtlos geht es weiter mit drei eigenen Nummern, die aus einer Single diese EP machen: „Doing me wrong“, eine Rockballade ohne großes Gedöns, dafür mit Glockenspiel und einer Bläserlinie zum Dahinschmelzen. „Run, run, run“, ein Feuerwerk, das am Ska-Funk-Nachthimmel gezündet wird und kein Tanzbein stillstehen lässt. Und Dylanesque“, ein nachdenklicher Song zu einem stampfenden Hip Hop Beat, der als ein weiterer Baustein im Experimentierkasten der Skydrunks gesehen werden darf. Mit Bandfoto, Bierdeckel und Aufkleber Beilage!

The band of nine from the heart of Bavaria is looking back on a highly productive year. They released their second album “Hinterland“ and played more than 40 live shows all over Germany. But eventually, the boys returned to the studio to record yet another of their bombastic cover versions: the 60s chart breaker “Tainted Love“. Soft Cell did quite a good job - we know that! But now it’s the Skydrunks’ turn with a tuba, turntables and an accordion. Never mind Cool Britannia, this is Cool Bavaria: An Oktoberfest polka beat makes way for a ska monster. Then the brass section takes the lead, only to crash the whole parade into a wall of dubstep.
Three more songs are to be found on the EP. “Doing me wrong“ is a classic rock ballad with a saxophone (sic!) - and is as cool as it gets. “Run, run, run“ feels like fireworks on Hogmanay, exploding in the ska funk sky. And “Dylanesque“, a thoughtful, political song with a stomping hip hop beat and a glockenspiel – the latest implement in the Skydrunk’s musical toolkit.
